Another insult. You're good at this. I'm done. Thanks guys.

So you interpret my positive opinion of sharing knowledge and "wishful thinking" as a declaration the they have an obligation to share something. Got it. I'll add that I've tried to be respectful throughout this whole thing while you've spouted off about my "bullshit" and "detached brain...

Let's go back to my original comment: "Anyone know if the McNeil's are mentoring anyone or documenting their processes for future generations?" Where did I imply that they SHOULD give it away? Is it not uncommon for knowledge to be passed down among artisans? My intention wasn't to say that it's...

I'd suggest you do the same. Read up on GPL. Yes, there are now paid versions of linux, but there are many more open source versions that rely heavily on volunteers for support. Simple fact is, without linux and contributions from volunteers, the internet as you know it wouldn't exist. Here's a...

They sure are! I'm just glad lots of other people have the opposite opinion. Take the internet for example, over 90% runs on Linux which was developed by talented and gifted people who selflessly contribute to free, open source software. They could develop the features they need and keep it to...

    Hello from Northern Colorado

Hi Geo! I'm noticing there are a fair number of us in CO. I'm in South Denver, not too far from you :).

Yikes...are you able to salvage any of it?

As the guy playing devil's advocate in this thread, I have to say, my intention is not to inflame anyone else. I respect everyone's opinion on this matter. My personal belief is that if you have a talent or gift, it is much better to share it with the world than keeping it to yourself. Hell, I...

That's what I'm not understanding. Imagine if scientists at the top of their field didn't bother to mentor the next generation and never published their research. Sure, they may go down as legends in their field, but they didn't help advance anything.

I don't know that that's a good analogy for this scenario. Inputs, processes, techniques, etc. can be reproduced reliably. Sure, artistry is needed to create a blend in the first place, but after that it can be repeated indefinitely. The only way it dies at some point is if the knowledge is...

Anyone know if the McNeil's are mentoring anyone or documenting their processes for future generations? I understand that the quality leaf they required is not available, but that doesn't mean it will never be available again. It would be a shame to lose all of the knowledge that pushed pipe...

    Hello from Northern California!

Welcome from Denver, CO from a former Southern Californian! Our tastes for english blends are very similar. My favorite was Frog OTT too. I have two precious tins squirreled away. Based on the others you mentioned, you should look into Peretti Royal and Tashkent, I think you'd enjoy them...

When is the vacuum seal broken?

I understand what you were getting at. The seal can be tested without breaking it. I was just curious if anyone else popped tins with just their fingers. I'm pretty sure it's more about the technique than strength. I have pretty sissy hands and can manage. Maybe I'll record a video of my...

When is the vacuum seal broken?

Really? I always pry open a new tin with just my fingers. My technique is to hold the bottom of the tin in one hand and with the other, use my index, middle, and ring fingers. Middle finger goes on the small indent where you would insert a knife, screwdriver, etc. Anyone else do this?
