I received a parcel from Amazon - huge box with a zippo lighter in it. I know I didn’t order it, did one of you nice people send it to me??

The best sound I've heard in a while

Today I opened a large (8 oz) tin of GLP Gaslight (2016). The can was bulging and ready to blow! Popping the tab let out an audible "bang" as all those delicious gases escaped, and my nose was assailed with the aroma of aged latakia, It's enough to make one want to buy these big tins, just to...

    A Gumnut at last.....

I’ve always thought the Bullfrog “gumnut” to be a bit of an oddity - and so sat on the fence. Recently, when in Spain, we walked through a lot of eucalyptus forests, and saw a lot of the pod lying on the ground. Where I grew up, we called the trees “bluegums “ (because of their resin) and used...

    New Erik Stokkebye pipes

All right - I followed a smokingpipes ad link and hit a home run. Bruno Nuttens did these and damnation, they are gorgeous! https://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/new/erik-stokkebye-4th-generation/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=526410

    End of lunting season

It is my usual habit to smoke my pipe (or a cigar) while walking to and from work each day. One of the consequences of living in one of the coldest cities in the world, is that this is not always possible. (Our winter is the stuff of legend.) Today our temp fell to 14 below (Celsius) and a...

    Frustrated at SPC ads!

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the smokingpipes advertisements on our site. They frequently show the most gorgeous pipes on their "updates" banner. Following the link, however, is a classic "bait and switch". Today for example there is a great looking AKB meerschaum cutty shown -...

Condor Ready Rubbed Revisited - it's a long story!

Our rhinencephalon is no where near as developed as that of a dog, but the old primitive brain has looked after our species for a very long time. It connects olfaction – aromas (rather than astringent smells which are elsewhere) and complex flavours (i.e. not sweet, bitter, sour which are a...

    VaPer or VaBur?

In response to the Perique question posed on the forum today - I think Perique behaves differently with virginnias vs burleys. A hefty VaBur is so much meatier. The synergy is different - does anyone have an explanation? (Or am I nuts?)

    Solani Aged Burley Flake

I haven’t given this tobacco enough respect. I usually walk while smoking - nature of where I live, and think this does a disservice to less full flavoured tobacco..... I also use ABF to break in pipes- as it makes a decent cake without a ghost. I recently decided to break in my 2021 POY...

    Peterson Pub Pipes?

I have a House Pipe - it’s a beast, but a lonely beast. I have also completely blown my pipe budget. So as luck would have it, SP.com posted a pair of rather lovely looking terracotta Pub Pipes. Now they look like a classic Peterson Oom Paul, and considering my origins, they have a strong...

    Mylar Switch (Ad Nauseum)

A number of threads touch on this topic, so at the risk of boring y'all,..... Actually, a member asked me for some details of my system, so I thought I might show you here. The jury is out on Mylar vs jars - but I would offer the response of one of my mentors: "likely not better, not worse...

    Cellaring Gawith Boxes - Remix

I know this is old hat to some of you. Gawith boxes are an issue for me. I am not comfortable leaving the tobacco in the box - they sometimes have mold, and will tend to dry out in my limited experience. Also 250g of tobacco is a large amount to bring into rotation at any one time. Historically...

    Help Identifying Pipe

Good morning all I bought this little anse from a PSF member years ago. My recollection is that it was “Bam-Bam, but I don’t know for sure does anyone know who the carver is ?

    Sparkplug - Initial Issues

So I popped my first tin of Sparkplug yesterday. It smells fantastic. I'm a huge fan of GLP blends, and the collaboration with SG makes it doubly interesting. The "plug" itself is a plug only inasmuch as it consists of pressed leaves (i.e. it's not a cake). However - the plug itself is fairly...
